What is an Influence/ Assist?

An Influence or an assist is when a publisher has helped contribute to a sale, for which they are not rewarded on the last click wins basis. In the affiliate world, it is often the case that several publishers can be involved in the early stages of the path to conversion and are not necessarily converting these sales.
For example, someone visits a blog and clicks on the affiliate link which directs them to an advertiser's shop. The user then goes to a price comparison site and then also searches for a voucher code. If this person then clicks on the voucher code's link and makes a purchase, the commission is typically paid to the voucher publisher as they drive the last click that leads to the purchase.

Can I see it in my Awin account if I assisted a sale?

Assist data can be seen within the Awin reporting. To see the assisted sales data, go to Reports > Advertiser Performance.

See the column "Assisted Awin".

There are three different types of assists

  • Assisted Awin: sales and leads for which you have driven a click but were not the last referrer or the winning publisher.
  • Assisted Awin (1st): sales and leads for which you have driven the first click but were not the last referrer or the winning publisher.
  • Assisted Other Channels: sales and leads for which you have driven a click but were not the last referrer or the winning publisher. The sale is driven by a different paid campaign, e.g. google ads.

For example, here you see the view of a publisher who was not the last click but contributed to six sales of the advertiser Asos UK at some point of the customer journey. When you hover over the row,  a small pie chart icon appears next to the number six:

Clicking the pie chart will open up a little window that gives a breakdown of these figures:

  • The numbers in the chart show the publisher's promotional types that ultimately won the sales you have assisted with. Three sales were won by a discount code publisher, two by a cashback site, and so on.
  • You can toggle between the Assisted Awin and Assisted Awin (1st) with the orange buttons at the bottom.

Can I still receive a commission if I'm not the last click?

Advertisers on Awin are able to see the number of influence or assisted sales per publisher and can implement a Payment on Assist payment model to reward publishers (of their choice) for the role they have played in influencing the consumer in the purchasing journey.
Please keep in mind, however, that the Payment by Assist requires a certain amount of setup beforehand (similar to CPC or CPL campaigns). Therefore, if you would like to work with this alternative model, it is essential that you reach out to the advertiser(s) that you wish to work with and let them know why you should receive a commission on the sales you help contribute. We recommend that you leverage the Assisted Awin report to show the value of your traffic through the volume of sales you have contributed.
